Solo Works

The Quiet of Icy Woods

  • for piano

  • duration ~2mins

‘The Quiet of Icy Woods’ depicts the serenity of a snow-covered forest, reflected through the slow-moving, repetitive melody. The gentle harmonies take the listener on this short trip, ending on a motif that echoes repeatedly, like the snowy ground that stretches into the horizon.

Snow Globe, Lights Out

  • solo for piano and toy piano

  • duration ~1min 45secs

‘Snow Globe, Lights Out’ utilises the KAWAI toy grand piano which tunes from F5 - C8, and has responsive keys allowing musicians to play difficult and technical passages on the toy piano. Inspired by Japanese pianist, Hayato Sumino, this waltz requires the performer to play both instruments at the same time, creating a dialogue between the two pianos.

To the Feet of the Dancer

  • for violin

  • duration ~1min 30secs

This short study for violin involves a homophonic texture, including homophonic pizzicato and a series of harmonics. The piece imitates the taps of the feet from a soulful dance.
